CCI Australia Pty Ltd commenced trading as Carbon Consulting International Pty Ltd in Newcastle in 1977. Its business was to service the technical needs of the Australian coal industry by providing analytical facilities, technical support and consulting services. The name has changed to CCI Australia but it has maintained that core business and today has nine laboratories throughout Queensland and New South Wales, employing some 250 people. These laboratory facilities are the base from which CCI Australia provides various analytical and technical support services to the coal mining and other industries.

CCI Australia Pty Ltd has nine laboratories which are certified to operate a quality management system in accordance with AS NZS ISO 9001:2000 and are technically accredited to ISO IEC 17025:2005, which includes the NATA Supplementary Requirements for Chemical Testing. Four of the laboratories are located at the major coal ports where superintending is required. The other five are inland, close to the mining operations of our major coal customers.

CCI has been able to retain its operational philosophy of "excellence and integrity" through the employment of highly qualified and experienced management personnel and a strong commitment to employee training at all levels.
